Last year I posted an advert on witchvox calling for local people who would be interested in starting a new coven. Interest has been slowly and steadily growing. I currently have a potential coven of 10 ladies. I'm excited in a nervous kind of way. I am not the most socially confident person. The thought of meeting strangers is quite terrifying. I don't know how many of the potential witches are really up for trying this. I always assume that out of all who express an interest, only half will follow through.
Since last year I had a good feeling about May, that this would be the time for new projects. I've proposed a coven meeting in May and so far three individuals have said they would like to meet up. What I worry about is being able to meet everyone's needs, because I want the coven to work for everyone. I want clear communication, this is the most important thing, that we are able to share our ideas. I don't like the idea of a coven where a select leadership make all the decisions while other members of the group just follow along. I want a democratic coven where everyone has a voice to be heard. I dread that someone may be standing in the circle thinking "this doesn't really work for me, but I will go along with it because it's what everyone else wants". I want every ritual to be thoroughly discussed so everyone can understand what we are doing and why we are doing it. I want everyone to be able to offer their input, bring their own tools, suggest spells and rituals. I want everything to be finely tailored to suit individual needs, so that we are a circle of equals, supporting each other. I think our age range is fairly broad and I'm not going to be the most experienced one there, so I don't see myself as any kind of guru. I'm just someone who's taking on organisation responsibilities.
This reminds me of a few years back when I ran an online message board. I wanted to fascilitate a space where everyone could speak their mind, and share contrasting points of view peacefully. It was important to me to remain impartial, avoiding conflicts, making peace, and encouraging everyone to share their thoughts. Just because a group of people have decided to work together, doesn't mean they will agree on everything, and agreeing on everything is not necessary for a group to work. We may all have very different ideas on morality, the afterlife, fortune telling, health etc. What is important is that we allow each other to have differences, and find a way to work in harmony.
I have decided that the month of April is a quiet time of self reflection for me, which is why I haven't been making youtube videos. I need some time to prepare for this new step in my life, and to take stock of all that has changed. My path has been rocky and winding, at times it has been dark and at other times it has been dazzling bright. I have had my stumbles, and I have felt completely lost. But I'm still here, and I'm still moving ever onward.

DeleteI couldn't agree more! And- of course, I'd be thrilled to join your coven, Annika, but the commute is a bit too much for me at this point ;O)
DeleteHehe thank you Jo, if only there weren't a pond between us!! xx
DeleteBest of luck, Annika! I too wish I lived closer so that I could become involved. :)
