In Hinduism, the concept of dama means discipline. Five types of self-restraint are taught in Hindu philosophy. Firstly, one should refrain from violent behaviour, or injuring others. Secondly, one should refrain from deceiving others, or telling lies. Thirdly, one should refain from stealing, or taking things without permission. Fourthly, one should refrain from sexually abusing others. Lastly, one should refrain from selfishness or excessive wealth. All these things should be considered, not only when it comes to our actions, but our thoughts too.
This card teaches us to achieve the mental balance of not too hot, not too cold. It's important to even out our temperament and direct our energy into worthwhile actions. It means that we all have the power to better ourselves, and thereby make the world a better place for everyone. This card reminds us to cultivate our inner wisdom, self-understanding, and intuition. The number of this card is fourteen, which can be seen as 4+1=5. For this reason, the fourteenth card is linked to the meaning of the fifth card. It teaches us how to achieve the role of Hierophant.
